The First Universalist Church in Providence

Welcome to The First Universalist Church
in Providence

A warm, traditional congregation of believers in the heart of historic Downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Whether you are visiting the area, looking for a church home, or simply interested in what we do, we invite you to join us for Sunday worship (weekly at 10:30 a.m.) and our special seasonal services throughout the year.

IDENTITY AND VOCATIONS

We offer an ecumenically-minded church home securely rooted in the Gospel, open to all the Lord’s people, and dedicated to upbuilding the Body of Christ in this city named for God’s Providence.

The First Universalist Church is so named for our proclamation of universal salvation (I Cor. 15:22) through the conquering victory of Jesus Christ (Rev. 17:14).  As a continuing Trinitarian Christian congregation, we are organizing members (1974) of the Providence Intown Churches Association (PICA), charter members (1993) of the Council of Christian Churches Within The Unitarian Universalist Association (CXCUUA), and a founding member (1838) of the Universalist Church of Rhode Island (UCRI).

We are a founding member (1934) of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches and a partner (2014) of Greater Love Outreach Ministries of Pawtucket. The Pastor is a member (2005) of the Faith & Order Commission of the National Council of Churches and has standing since 1988 with the National Association of Congregational Churches.
