The First Universalist Church in Providence

Welcome to The First Universalist Church
in Providence

A warm, traditional congregation of believers in the heart of historic Downtown Providence, Rhode Island. Whether you are visiting the area, looking for a church home, or simply interested in what we do, we invite you to join us for Sunday worship (weekly at 10:30 a.m.) and our special seasonal services throughout the year.

The Rhode Island Universalist Convention (now the Universalist Church of R.I.) formed in our vestry on April 10, 1838; this Annual Meeting is on the last Sunday Afternoon in April.  We are members of the Unitarian Universalist Association (1961) & its Ballou Channing District; and also continuing Charter Members of The Council of Christian Churches Within The Unitarian Universalist Association.

We are a founding member (1934) of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches and a partner (2014) of Greater Love Outreach Ministries of Pawtucket. The Pastor is a member (2005) of the Faith & Order Commission of the National Council of Churches and has standing since 1988 with the National Association of Congregational Churches.
